Penang CNY Celebration began at The Heritage Precinct of George Town since year 1999 with the aim to spread our traditional cultures through a CNY festive event by the local communities and cultural associations. This event is a must-go one by both Penangites as well as visitors from local and international alike.

Penang CNY Celebration is held along 12 diverse major and minor streets in The Heritage Precinct of George Town every year, numerous cultural booths, exhibitions and interactive workshops have brought so much fun to the visitors; 14 stages, each located at different corners of the streets showcasing performances of various cultures as well cater for visitors from different places of birth.

What in fact makes Penang CNY Celebration significant is the ancestral temple in The Heritage Precinct of George Town. There are 23 of them in all, the cultural gem of each ancestral temple will be displayed to the visitors in accordance with the theme of Penang CNY Celebration each year. This would allow members of the public to pay a visit to all these prominent ancestral temples and thus learn more on their cultural assets, be them tangible or intangible, which are not being taught in school. Through the eye-widening exploration to understand the cultural gems in-depth, they will thus learn to be more appreciative, and eventually, be aware of the need to inherit their respective beautiful traditional cultures.
